When a regime\u00a0talks\u00a0this obsessively about internal \u201csedition,\u201d it is not governing\u2014it is bracing for what it believes is coming next.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ghalibaf\u2019s\u00a0sudden concern for \u201cthe people\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Parliament speaker Mohammad-Baqer <a href=\"https:\/\/fa.shafaqna.com\/news\/2204223\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ghalibaf tried to strike<\/a> an appeasing note\u2014because he can read the street. At Khomeini\u2019s tomb on February 3, 2026, he warned that \u201cnegligence, mistakes, miscalculation, or fear and surrender can have enormous costs,\u201d adding that the damage would hit \u201cthe faith and worldly life of the people and even future generations.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That phrasing\u2014\u201cthe people,\u201d \u201cfuture generations\u201d\u2014is not compassion; it is fear management.\u00a0Ghalibaf\u00a0knows the January uprising was not a one-off event. It was an eruption from accumulated poverty, corruption, humiliation, and unpunished killing.\u00a0So\u00a0he reached for a \u201cnational interest\u201d tone, as if the same system that shoots citizens can now present itself as\u00a0guardian\u00a0of their future.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">His metaphor made the anxiety even clearer. Referring to January, he said the leadership called it a \u201cgreat sedition,\u201d even\u00a0\u201ca coup,\u201d and then added: if \u201cGod\u201d and \u201cthe people\u201d had not \u201cneutralized\u201d it, \u201cwe would not have today.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That is not reassurance. A regime confident at home does not talk like this. Judiciary spokesman Ali-Asghar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tabnak.ir\/fa\/news\/1355412\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jahangir dismissed criticism<\/a> as \u201cbaseless human-rights accusations,\u201d and then offered an absurd inversion of reality: he claimed \u201crioters\u201d killed \u201cinnocent women and children\u201d in the street \u201cto stage deaths\u201d and \u201cprepare the conditions\u201d for enemies to enter. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He then made the threat explicit: anyone branded a \u201cleader\u201d of the unrest\u2014those the regime claims \u201ccame in an organized manner\u201d and carried out arson and damage, including \u201creligious centers like mosques\u201d\u2014will face \u201clegal pursuit and criminal prosecution.\u201d Beyond prison terms, he said they \u201cmust\u201d pay compensation; and if, after serving their sentences, they cannot \u201ccompensate the damage,\u201d the law allows them to remain jailed \u201cuntil their insolvency is proven or they compensate the damage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In other words: punishment without end\u2014economic hostage-taking dressed up as law.
