It was the country.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What unfolded inside the session was not\u00a0a conventional\u00a0legal hearing. It was a political operation designed to do three things at once: appropriate the uprising\u2019s most organized and radical edge and brand it as a criminal conspiracy, so that ordinary citizens are frightened into distancing themselves from organized resistance; intimidate a society already boiling; and reassure a shaken security base that the regime still has a narrative\u2014and still\u00a0can persecute its\u00a0enemies.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iranian?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iranian<\/a> Regime\u2019s Sham Trial Turned into a Censorship Campaign<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rLMySQjOFf\">https:\/\/t.co\/rLMySQjOFf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1996298514767208872?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 3, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">January Enters the Courtroom<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245418&quot;:true,&quot;134245529&quot;:true,&quot;335559738&quot;:160,&quot;335559739&quot;:80}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regime\u2019s fear of the <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/pmoi-resistance-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PMOI\u2019s Resistance Units<\/a>\u2014and the January uprising\u2019s organized dimension\u2014surfaced most clearly when the complainants\u2019 lawyer tried to drag recent events directly into the case.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to the state report, the lawyer claimed that \u201cimages and reports from less than a month and a half ago\u201d show media affiliated with the organization \u201cencouraging\u201d armed individuals described as \u201cResistance Units\u201d to carry out \u201cviolent actions\u201d and \u201cmanufacturing deaths,\u201d presenting them \u201cwith pride.\u201d He then called for\u00a0additional\u00a0security \u201cinquiries\u201d into the role of those units and the \u201ccontinuation\u201d of the organization\u2019s activity.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This is not\u00a0incidental\u00a0courtroom rhetoric. It is a signal flare.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When a regime is confident, it dismisses opponents as irrelevant. When it is anxious, it\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">names<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0them\u2014and tries to criminalize the very idea that an organized force can\u00a0operate\u00a0inside the country. The regime\u2019s own insistence\u2014inside a court session\u2014on \u201ccontinuity,\u201d on \u201corganization,\u201d on \u201cstructure,\u201d and on \u201crecent weeks\u201d is a tacit admission that the January uprising did not end with the crackdown. But the content, delivered\u00a0largely through\u00a0the complainants\u2019 counsel, read like\u00a0an indictment\u00a0written by security\u00a0organs\u00a0and performed by a robe.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The complainants\u2019 lawyer repeated the regime\u2019s familiar centerpiece claim: that the organization\u2019s record includes the deaths of \u201cmore than 17,000\u201d Iranians, and that it has \u201ceven taken pride\u201d in such acts. Whether or not the judiciary can prove any of this in a credible forum is beside the point here. The regime is not trying to persuade independent judges. It is trying to stamp a label onto any form of organized dissent:\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">terrorism<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">treason<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">war<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The most revealing segment came when the complainants\u2019 lawyer argued that the case is not about a discrete historical episode, but about something \u201ccontinuous\u201d and \u201cchain-like\u201d\u2014a concept meant to reach into the present and criminalize\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">today\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0networks.\u00a0He\u00a0explicitly claimed the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/article\/how-pmoi-resistance-units-are-shaping-irans-democratic-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PMOI\u2019s alleged actions<\/a> are \u201cnot limited to a specific decade,\u201d and that even later members who did not take part in earlier operations are still culpable \u201csimply by membership and activity\u201d in what he called the continuation of that pattern.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Deeply troubled by the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UN?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UN<\/a> Special Rapporteur&#39;s report exposing its atrocity crimes and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/genocide?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#genocide<\/a> in the 1980s, the world&#39;s leading executioner per capita is using a sham trial in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Tehran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Tehran<\/a> to attack the UN. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TLSxwMB8an\">pic.twitter.com\/TLSxwMB8an<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1836733334094774613?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 19, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Why the Regime Is Reopening This Theater Now<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245418&quot;:true,&quot;134245529&quot;:true,&quot;335559738&quot;:160,&quot;335559739&quot;:80}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The question is not why the regime\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fears\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the PMOI. It always has. The question is why it is resurrecting and extending this trial in such dire circumstances.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The answer\u00a0is in\u00a0what the session admits. The judiciary is openly acknowledging that the most radical edge of <a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/january-2026-iran-uprising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the January uprising<\/a> was organized\u2014and that is precisely what frightens the regime. The state can brutalize dispersed crowds, even when they are large. It has decades of practice in beating, shooting, arresting, and dispersing people in the streets. But an organization with networks, discipline, and ideological backbone\u2014one that has survived decades of massacres and extermination campaigns and still\u00a0retains\u00a0an international footing\u2014cannot be\u00a0eliminated\u00a0the same way.\u00a0It cannot be neatly separated from society, and it cannot be \u201cfinished\u201d with a single crackdown.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That is why the session leaned so heavily on hierarchy, structure, and \u201ccontinuity.\u201d It was not simply arguing guilt; it was sending a message to the public: do not connect your anger to organized resistance.
