Photo: David Iliff (Diliff), CC BY-SA 3.0, via <a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-sa\/3.0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"187\" data-end=\"484\">The <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">European Parliament<\/span><\/span> has adopted a resolution condemning \u201csystemic oppression, inhumane conditions and arbitrary detentions\u201d by the clerical regime in <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Iran<\/span><\/span>, approving the text by 524 votes in favor, 3 against and 41 abstentions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"486\" data-end=\"876\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/TA-10-2026-0046_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In the resolution<\/a>, lawmakers cite a pattern of arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, torture, extrajudicial killings, sexual violence, collective punishment and abusive detention conditions, and say estimates of deaths during recent protests range from several thousand to more than 35,000, including women, children and elderly people, with EU citizens among the victims.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"878\" data-end=\"1218\">MEPs call for an end to violence against civilians, an end to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/stop-executions-in-iran\/iran-marks-more-than-2200-executions-in-2025-unprecedented-high-in-khameneis-37-year-criminal-rule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executions and repression<\/a>, and the release of those held in arbitrary detention, including foreign and dual nationals.
