MEK\/PMOI<\/a>.<\/p>\nThe press conference took place as Munich hosts the Munich Security Conference (February 13\u201315, 2026).<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Mr. Mohaddessin described Iran as facing a historic national crisis, arguing the country is \u201cat the heart of a profound transformation,\u201d driven by the regime\u2019s regional setbacks and what he called the \u201cgreat January uprising.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the street killings in January were \u201cunprecedented in the history of this regime,\u201d asserting that \u201cthousands were killed on the orders of Ali Khamenei and by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).\u201d He added that the protests spread nationwide: \u201cmasses of people rose up [in] 400 cities across all 31 provinces,\u201d and in Tehran \u201cclashes erupted in more than 100 locations,\u201d with demonstrators \u201copenly demand[ing] the overthrow of Khamenei.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Mohaddessin also presented casualty and arrest figures attributed to the MEK\/PMOI\u2019s internal network, stating it had identified 2,411 victims, including 259 women and at least 174 children and teenagers under 18, while \u201cno fewer than 50,000 people have been arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n
A central issue of his statement was that the crackdown was premeditated, not improvised. \u201cWe possess credible documents from within the regime proving that this massacre had been premeditated,\u201d he said, citing \u201chighly classified directives\u201d issued through the regime\u2019s security bodies, \u201cpersonally approved by Khamenei,\u201d and carried out \u201cprecisely in accordance with those directives.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further pointed to a series of purported audio recordings from regime security meetings in 2025 as evidence of official anxiety\u2014particularly about the MEK and Resistance Units\u2014highlighting discussions on April 11, June 2, and July 9, 2025, which he said revealed fear of \u201cfire-focused operations\u201d and the expansion of organized resistance.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mohaddessin warned that, alongside violent repression, the uprising faced what he described as an external narrative-engineering effort to present Reza Pahlavi (son of the former Shah) as an alternative. He said that \u201ccertain circles and media outlets abroad\u201d had attempted \u201cthrough engineered narratives, online manipulation, and fraudulent amplification\u201d to elevate the Shah\u2019s son\u2014arguing that the IRGC and intelligence services \u201cactively participated\u201d because \u201cpromoting a return to the past obstructs genuine regime change and ultimately benefits the current dictatorship.\u201d<\/p>\n
He cautioned against the replacement of anti-regime slogans with pro-monarchy chants, stating this dynamic was designed to \u201cmuddy the waters\u201d and discourage broad participation.<\/p>\n

He said it was \u201ca crying shame\u201d and \u201ca damning indictment\u201d that the Munich Security Conference had chosen to invite Reza Pahlavi, calling it\u2014at minimum\u2014\u201can extraordinary error of judgment.\u201d Referencing the invite, he contrasted \u201ccredible, deep-rooted, on-the-ground\u2026 democratic opposition\u201d with \u201csmall-scale if noisy opposition\u201d from someone \u201cknown\u2026 for one thing alone and that is his name.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Bercow argued that Reza Pahlavi\u2019s profile does not match the reality of sustained domestic opposition, stressing: \u201cHe has been outside of the country these last 47 years\u2026 known for being the son of the Shah.\u201d He added that the Shah\u2019s son had not clearly condemned the dictatorship of his father, saying he had instead urged people to \u201cawait the verdict of historians.\u201d<\/p>\n
Turning to the protests themselves, Bercow emphasized that the current uprising differs from earlier waves because it is \u201cvastly larger,\u201d spanning \u201cover 400 cities and all 31 provinces,\u201d with young people and women participating at an unprecedented scale. He underscored a key message: protesters, he said, are united in rejecting all forms of dictatorship\u2014\u201cno autocracy, no theocracy and no monarchy.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also echoed that pro-monarchy signs and chants represent a calculated regime tactic: a \u201cdeliberate calculated weapon of the regime to put its agents in those demonstrations calling for the return of the Shah,\u201d aimed at manufacturing a false binary between clerical rule and monarchy.<\/p>\n
Bercow concluded by urging journalists not to \u201cfall for\u201d the \u201cpreposterous notion\u201d that the alternative to the current dictatorship is a monarchical figure, calling that idea \u201canachronistic\u2026 and antediluvian,\u201d and pointing instead to the NCRI and Maryam Rajavi\u2019s 10-point plan as the democratic route forward.<\/p>\n
