Debate on Banning Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guard in Germany<\/h3>\n

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, the Bundestag will hold its first reading of a motion submitted by the AfD parliamentary group titled \u201cBan on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran in Germany\u201d (21\/4279). Following a 20-minute debate, the motion is to be referred to the relevant committees for further deliberation. The lead committee will be the Committee on Internal Affairs.<\/p>\n

The AfD parliamentary group is advocating for a ban on Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Germany. In their motion, the lawmakers describe the Revolutionary Guards as a central component of Iran\u2019s authoritarian-theocratic Sharia system and accuse them of involvement in the violent suppression of demonstrations, the systematic restriction of human rights, and the persecution of political opponents.<\/p>\n

Among other measures, the federal government is called upon to examine and, if appropriate, impose a ban on the Revolutionary Guards under German association and criminal law. In addition, the activities of the Revolutionary Guards in Germany should be prevented, \u201cincluding a comprehensive prohibition of activities, entry bans and financial sanctions, and the full use of legal instruments under association, tax, and residence law.\u201d<\/p>\n
