At dawn on March 30, 2026, Iranian authorities executed Akbar (Shahrokh)\u00a0Daneshvarkar, a civil engineer and member of the PMOI\/MEK Resistance Units<\/a>, in\u00a0Ghezel\u00a0Hesar\u00a0Prison. He was executed alongside another political prisoner as part of a broader wave of killings targeting organized opposition networks.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Daneshvarkar\u00a0was not an imported dissident, nor a marginal figure. His life followed a path that mirrors a wider social trajectory inside Iran\u2014one that begins within the system and ends in open resistance to it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his final letter, he introduces himself simply: \u201cMy name is Shahrokh\u00a0Daneshvarkar<\/a>\u2026 I am now on death row.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He describes a childhood shaped by faith, duty, and social responsibility. He was a Basij member,\u00a0participated\u00a0in the Iran-Iraq war, and engaged in state-backed institutions. Yet even in those early years, he writes that he \u201cdid not remain indifferent\u201d to injustice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That refusal to ignore contradictions became the foundation of his transformation. What began as loyalty gradually turned into questioning. Witnessing injustice, corruption, and the realities of absolute clerical rule led him to reject the system from within. \u201cI asked myself: where does this path lead? \u2026 I rejected it,\u201d he writes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Six PMOI members after being sentenced to death by Iran's regime, singing songs of resistance and defiance against the mullahs' rule.<\/p>\n
