On August 4, 2026, Iranian regime\u2019s president Masoud Pezeshkian denied reports of his resignation in a broadcast teaser, stating, “I will not resign and I will stand firm. These people want to create discord, suggesting the Leader says one thing and they say another.” This followed viral statements by cleric Mohammad Bagher Kharrazi\u2014secretary-general of “Hezbollah of Iran” and brother-in-law of Masoud Khamenei (brother of Mojtaba Khamenei)\u2014claiming Pezeshkian offered his resignation 28 times. Kharrazi alleged Mojtaba Khamenei threatened to accept it, but Mojtaba\u2019s office issued<\/a> a formal denial, calling the claim “fundamentally false and contrary to reality.”<\/p>\n

The political rift triggered state television censorship and administrative disruptions. On August 4, state outlet Rouydad 24<\/em> reported on the broadcaster’s “strange behavior” after its 20:30 News<\/em> program relegated the Supreme Leader\u2019s office denial to a routine story 16 minutes into the broadcast, prioritizing reports on Arbaeen marches. Concurrently, the presidential public relations office postponed Pezeshkian\u2019s four-night televised address from Tuesday to Wednesday, officially citing Arbaeen mourning ceremonies.<\/p>\n

The conflict unleashed fierce feuds across state media regarding negotiations with the United States. On August 4, the hardline Kayhan<\/em> daily denounced<\/a> the so-called reformists as a “network of West-worshippers” demanding “unconditional surrender, disarmament of the armed forces, and bowing to the treacherous enemy.” In response, Jomhouri Eslami<\/em> newspaper attacked hardline “warmongers” living in “ultimate comfort… in safe houses” who teach ways to force Pezeshkian to resign, urging the president to show decisiveness to “cut off the hands of the warmongering opportunists.”<\/p>\n
