It cited former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran Dr. Javaid Rehman, who has characterized the 1988 massacre as a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/press-releases\/2024\/07\/iran-atrocity-crimes-must-be-investigated-and-perpetrators-prosecuted-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crime against humanity,<\/a>\u201d and called for those responsible for ordering and carrying out the killings to eventually face justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The campaign said it seeks accountability for the victims of the 1988 massacre as well as for all those executed by the Iranian authorities in subsequent years.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">39 Political Prisoners Executed Since the Start of the Year<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement highlighted the recent execution of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/2088953680452038754\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shahram Sadeghi<\/a>, a political prisoner arrested during the December 2025\u2013January 2026 protests, who was executed in Karaj last week.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Iranian prisoners are marking the 134th week of \u201cNo to Execution Tuesdays\u201d campaign, now joined by prisoners in 60 prisons across Iran.<br \/>Their weekly hunger strike demands an end to executions and the death penalty.<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/StopExecutionsInIran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#StopExecutionsInIran<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/71iscF8fCs\">https:\/\/t.co\/71iscF8fCs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; IRAN HRM (@IranHrm) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IranHrm\/status\/2089689658540081661?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 18, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It also referred to the recent execution of Mohammad \u201cCheragh\u201d Afroukhteh in Zahedan. According to the campaign, these two executions bring the number of political prisoners executed since the beginning of 2026 to at least 39.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The campaign warned that the figure represents a serious threat to many other political and non-political prisoners currently facing death sentences.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Call to Tie Relations with Iran to an End to Executions<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/2026\/08\/18\/134th-week-of-the-no-to-execution-tuesdays-campaign-in-60-prisons-across-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement welcomed<\/a> a declaration by 32 countries calling for an immediate halt to executions in Iran.
