Iran\u2019s security establishment is publicly identifying domestic discontent as a central arena of confrontation. In a statement carried by the state media<\/a> on August 27, 2026, the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Iran\u2019s adversaries had changed strategy after failing, in its account, to achieve \u201cregime change through military strikes.\u201d It listed the activation of \u201ccrisis centers,\u201d psychological warfare, disruption of financial markets and security operations among the new threats.<\/p>\n

Most strikingly, IRGC Intelligence warned of efforts to exploit domestic \u201cweaknesses, shortages and limitations\u201d and \u201cprovoke people to spread dissatisfaction to the streets.\u201d It said its forces would concentrate on confronting actions that disturb \u201ccalm, empathy and national cohesion.\u201d The language is unusually explicit: the security apparatus itself is describing the conversion of economic and social grievances into street protests as a threat requiring preventive action.<\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s president Masoud Pezeshkian echoed that concern on August 25. Speaking in remarks reported by state media<\/a>, he said adversaries were targeting \u201csocial issues and economic dissatisfaction\u201d to push Iran toward unrest, adding: \u201cAll my effort and that of the system\u2019s officials is to preserve unity and cohesion.\u201d Two days later, IRNA reported Pezeshkian convening economic officials and stressing the need to maintain stability and control inflationary expectations.<\/p>\n
