For these women, choosing a career gradually gives way to a sheer desperate need to earn an income, an income that often comes with long hours, physical burnout, and the deprivation of even the most basic labor rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This situation is not limited to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wncri.org\/2026\/05\/18\/crushed-by-design-female-headed-households\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">women working<\/a>\u00a0in factories or manufacturing units. They are increasingly shaping who gets access to higher education\u2014and, consequently, who gets a realistic chance at a better future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"811\" data-end=\"1254\">A revealing report published by the regime-affiliated\u00a0<em data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"880\">Arman-e Melli<\/em>\u00a0daily on August 26, 2026, exposes the extent of this divide. According to figures cited by the newspaper, students from the three lowest income deciles account for only about 5.6 percent of more than 500,000 students enrolled in Iran\u2019s public universities. No reliable information is available concerning their ages, dates of birth, education, occupations or family circumstances. Their names became public after their arrest during the protests of December 2025 and January 2026 and the imposition of death sentences in a joint case. A photograph of Hamidreza Fathi is available, but no verified image of Abdolreza Fathi had been obtained by the time of this report.\u00a0Hamidreza and Abdolreza Fathi were arrested in Marvdasht during the protests of December 2025 and January 2026. Saeed Zarei Kordshouli and Hamidreza Sabet-Ray have also been prosecuted in the same case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 30 April 2026, reports stated that Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz, presided over by Judge Seyed Mahmoud Sadati, had sentenced all four defendants to death on the charge of efsad-e fel-arz (corruption on Earth).
