Both were arrested on suspicion of an offence under section 3 of the NSA, 2023 \u2013 assisting a foreign intelligence service. The country to which the investigation is linked is Iran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The arrests were made following two searches that were previously carried out on 24 June at residential addresses in the north and north-west London areas. Enquiries have continued following those searches, leading to the above arrests. A third residential property in the north-west London area was also searched on 9 September, following the arrest of the man and woman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both suspects were taken to a London police station, and were subsequently released on bail with strict conditions until a date in late October.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The investigation is not connected to any of the incidents or attacks earlier this year that have been targeted at various venues and buildings linked to Jewish and Iranian communities across London, nor is it connected to any activity or So that no one will be held captive again. Every day of delay is a shame and makes me sad.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Recently, political prisoners sent messages honoring the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/pmoi-statement-election-of-the-new-secretary-general-mahnaz-maimanat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sixty-first anniversary of the founding of the PMOI<\/a>. Wreaths and flower baskets carried portraits of PMOI founders Mohammad Hanifnejad, Saeid Mohsen, and Ali Asghar Badizadegan and messages commemorating 61 years of sacrifice, honesty, and perseverance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of the flowers and anniversary messages were sent by political prisoners supporting the PMOI in Ghezel Hesar Prison, linking the commemorations outside prison with parallel anniversary messages being issued from behind bars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The commemorations took different forms from city to city while carrying a common theme of connecting the PMOI\u2019s founding generation with those who followed it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Urmia, Resistance Units set up a memorial table with flowers, a cake, candles, and portraits of the PMOI\u2019s founders and members martyred during the struggle. Photographs of 15 PMOI members, including those executed since the beginning of the current Iranian year, were displayed. Motorcyclists and several cars moved through the streets flying the flags of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, or MEK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Iranian state television quickly announced that \u201call the individuals\u201d in the footage had been identified and arrested.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The regime disclosed neither the number of people arrested nor the date that the video was recorded. Still, the public announcement was significant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For years, Iran has described the MEK as a spent force with no social base. It tracks uranium enrichment,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/missiles\">missile<\/a>\u00a0capabilities, oil exports, currency movements, and military infrastructure. These are important measures of the Islamic Republic\u2019s power. But they answer only part of the question American policymakers should be asking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They tell us what Iran can do. They do not necessarily tell us how politically strong the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/regime\">regime<\/a>\u00a0is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That distinction matters. A regime can become more dangerous while becoming less politically resilient. Washington has too often treated those two things as if they were the same.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Consider how precisely Iran\u2019s measurable capabilities are assessed. Nuclear facilities are monitored down to enrichment levels and uranium stockpiles. Oil exports,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inflation\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">inflation<\/a>, and foreign currency reserves are scrutinized for signs of how much pressure Tehran can withstand.
