The \u201cNo to Execution Tuesdays<\/a>\u201d campaign said it had entered its 138th week with hunger strikes across 62 prisons in Iran, calling on the United Nations Third Committee and UN human rights officials to take practical action to halt executions in the country.<\/p>\n

In a statement dated Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the campaign linked its latest action to the approaching fourth anniversary of the 2022 nationwide protests sparked by the death of Jina Mahsa Amini. The statement said<\/a> the campaign \u201csalutes all those who lost their lives in this uprising, especially the heroic women who played a leading role in these protests.\u201d<\/p>\n

The campaign said the names of nearly 700 protesters killed during the unrest had been published, accusing the authorities of violent repression. It said the protests had not disappeared despite what it called \u201csavage suppression,\u201d adding that they continued \u201clike fire under the ashes\u201d until the country reaches \u201cfreedom, equality, democracy and the establishment of popular rule.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement accused Iran\u2019s ruling establishment of relying on executions and repression to maintain power. It said authorities had issued new death sentences this week and carried out executions, adding that at least 61 people had been executed since the beginning of Shahrivar, the Iranian month that began in late August.<\/p>\n
