Women\u2019s arrests in different cities across Iran continued in recent days alongside the issuance of judicial sentences and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding some detainees.<\/h5>\n

These cases encompass a wide range of situations, from the arrests of female<\/a> athletes, a physician, and family members of protest victims to prison and flogging sentences. This report covers only a selection of cases reported in recent days and does not include all cases involving women who were arrested or sentenced during this period.<\/p>\n

In recent days, reports have emerged of women\u2019s arrests in various parts of the country. In Iranshahr<\/a>, Shahnaz Kordi, a 46-year-old mother of six, was arrested and transferred to prison after appearing before a court. Her family has stated that the arrest was linked to the case of her son, who is being sought by the authorities.<\/p>\n

Also, Aida Qaderi, a 20-year-old swimming instructor and athlete from Saqqez, was arrested by Intelligence Ministry agents and taken to an undisclosed location. According to reports, she was arrested at home without the presentation of a judicial warrant.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Rial in Freefall as Central Bank Turns to Foreign-Exchange Intervention<\/h3>\n

Iran\u2019s rial has continued its dramatic decline, raising fresh questions about whether the regime can stabilize the currency through short-term injections of foreign exchange or whether the crisis reflects deeper structural failures in the economy.<\/p>\n

By late September, the free-market dollar had climbed above 2.5 million rials, setting successive records. The currency had already crossed the 2 million-rial threshold in August. The rapid depreciation has translated directly into higher costs for imported goods, medicine, raw materials, housing, and other basic necessities.<\/p>\n

Against this backdrop, the Central Bank of Iran has turned once again to foreign-exchange intervention. Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati said in early September that the bank was prepared to inject up to $2 billion into the market, after having already supplied $500 million.<\/p>\n

The intervention, however, has done little to reverse the underlying trend.<\/p>\n

The regime has repeatedly attempted to stabilize the rial by increasing the supply of foreign currency. The rationale is straightforward: if demand for dollars is pushing the exchange rate higher, supplying more dollars should reduce pressure on the market.<\/p>\n

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on October 1 that Iran had loaded \u201cZERO crude oil onto tankers in September,\u201d describing the development as evidence that the Trump administration\u2019s campaign was cutting off what he called the regime\u2019s most vital source of revenue. The development marks a sharp deterioration from August, when tanker-tracking estimates put Iranian crude loadings at roughly 220,000 to 255,000 barrels per day. A wave of resignations and people leaving their jobs is spreading across Iran. What is now being seen among nurses, teachers, and some employees in the public and private sectors is a sign of the widening gap between the cost of living and workers\u2019 incomes, as well as the erosion of hope for an improvement in economic conditions.<\/p>\n

The resignation of nurses provides a clear picture of this crisis. According to Mohammad Sharifi-Moghaddam, secretary-general of the Nursing House, around 70,000 nurses have stayed home, while their average monthly salary is approximately 250 to 280 million rials (about $94 to $106). He said that some nurses have concluded that, with such an income, staying at home entails less cost and wear and tear than continuing to work long hours under severe occupational pressure.<\/p>\n

But the problem is not only low wages. Inflation, the collapse in the value of the national currency, and the continued rise in the costs of housing, food, and services have meant that even nominal wage increases can no longer preserve workers\u2019 purchasing power. With the dollar exchange rate having surpassed 2.7 million rials and annual inflation reaching more than 90%, fixed salaries are effectively losing another portion of their value every month.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ruhollah Miri, head of the cancer department at the hospital known as Khomeini Hospital, has once again turned the cost of cancer treatment into a serious issue of public concern. In a quote circulated in the media and on social media, he speaks of patients who, because of the high cost of treatment, ask doctors to end their lives.<\/p>\n

The head of the cancer department at Khomeini Hospital says in published video clips: \u201cWe are truly encountering cases in which patients have given everything they own, have become destitute and exhausted, and beg us\u2026 Kill us, we have no money. Many times, right in front of this hospital, I have personally seen patients trying to throw themselves in front of cars.\u201d<\/p>\n

When a patient cannot afford the cost of treatment, illness is no longer merely a medical issue. The family\u2019s financial life is also thrown into crisis.<\/p>\n

Research conducted in Iran shows that the costs of cancer are not limited to hospital payments. Medication, tests, imaging, transportation, and ancillary care also impose heavy costs.<\/p>\n

A facility that served as the principal crime scene for the mass execution of political prisoners in the summer of 1988, and a focal point of international human rights documentation, is now being flattened without independent international documentation. According to Mizan News Agency<\/a> on October 4, 2026 [12 Mehr 1405], the 19th media tour organized by the Judiciary Media Center took place at the site of the former Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, attended by 35 journalists and photographers from 20 domestic media outlets, to document the conclusion of the complete demolition of perimeter walls and structural components.<\/p>\n

As reported by Mizan, the closure process dates back to Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei\u2019s provincial visit on April 6, 2023 [17 Farvardin 1402], during which the transfer of inmates was approved and completed by August 5, 2023 [14 Mordad 1402]. Following Ejei\u2019s directive on February 25, 2026 [6 Esfand 1404] to accelerate demolition and land repurposing, wall and tower demolition resumed in September 2026 and concluded in October 2026.<\/p>\n

The exhibition featured victims ranging from political prisoners killed in the 1988 massacre<\/a> to those executed or killed during Iran\u2019s recent nationwide protests<\/a>. They included Ali Hemmati, Majid Nikandish<\/a>, and Siavash Jamshidi<\/a>.<\/p>\n
