In reality, the courtroom has become something more revealing: a public inventory of what Tehran fears\u2014the MEK\u2019s organization, its appeal to young Iranians, <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/pmoi-resistance-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its Resistance Units<\/a>, its role in protests, and its growing international recognition.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The contradiction begins with the court itself.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The co-called \u201cJudge\u201d Amir-Reza Dehghani <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isna.ir\/amp\/1405071409193\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened the hearing<\/a> on October 6, 2026, by proclaiming adherence to \u201cthe principles of a fair trial\u201d and promising that the verdict would rest on evidence and law. Yet he immediately treated guilt as established, demanding that European governments arrest and extradite the accused and warning countries against providing them protection.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This is the anatomy of the sham trial: first presume guilt, then proclaim impartiality.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regime is also playing two incompatible roles. At home, it persecutes the MEK and seeks charges such as <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">efsad-e fel-arz<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, \u201ccorruption on earth,\u201d which can carry the death penalty. Abroad, it plays the victim and demands that democratic governments surrender its opponents.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Amid War and Domestic Crises, Tehran Revives Its Trial of the Iranian Resistance <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/NCRIAlternative?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NCRIAlternative<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cq0aJrMOO3\">https:\/\/t.co\/cq0aJrMOO3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iran_policy\/status\/2103033973257441501?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 24, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But the most revealing contradiction concerns the regime\u2019s claims about the MEK\u2019s support inside Iran.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A regime media \u201cexpert\u201d told the court that the organization \u201chas no base or standing inside Iran\u201d and supposedly cannot gather even eighteen people without deception. Yet the same speaker urged the judiciary, security agencies, and media apparatus to educate the population\u2014especially young people\u2014so they would not be drawn toward the organization.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If the MEK truly has no appeal, why must young Iranians be warned against it?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The prosecution makes the contradiction still clearer. It claims that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/demonizing-mek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resistance lacks a social base<\/a>, then complains about its extensive presence on social media, its ability to address social grievances, its influence on protests, and the activity of Resistance Units inside the country.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A movement without an audience does not require this level of surveillance.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An irrelevant exile organization does not require fifty-six court sessions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8 EXCLUSIVE | PMOI Resistance Unit Holds Parade in Karaj<br \/>Exclusive footage received by Simay Azadi shows a unit of the PMOI Resistance Units holding a parade in Karaj on September 3, 2026, marking the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7Y4RUDIx5y\">pic.twitter.com\/7Y4RUDIx5y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; SIMAY AZADI TV (@en_simayazadi) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/en_simayazadi\/status\/2095986554695307548?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 4, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And a political force with no connection to Iranian society does not require a nationwide campaign to prevent young people from joining it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regime\u2019s clerics are even more candid.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In an October sermon in Arak, Friday prayer leader Abdollahi warned that \u201call the enemy\u2019s hope is in internal unrest.\u201d He immediately invoked the MEK and described the confrontation as something the regime has been dealing with for \u201c47 years.\u201d To create the impression that the regime still enjoyed public support, he praised citizens for reporting suspected MEK members to the security forces.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That is an extraordinary admission.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For decades, Tehran has insisted that the MEK is finished, hated, isolated, and irrelevant. Yet when regime officials seek to frighten their own loyal base about another uprising, they return to the same adversary\u2014and describe the struggle as a forty-seven-year war.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The sham trial serves the same purpose. It is not merely designed to criminalize the Resistance abroad. It is meant to intimidate Iranians at home.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Young people are warned. Social-media users are warned. <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/pmoi-resistance-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resistance Units<\/a> are discussed repeatedly. Security agencies are urged to intervene. Foreign governments are pressured. Even a gathering in Karaj involving eighteen people became the subject of courtroom testimony, security investigation, and state-media analysis.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A confident dictatorship would dismiss eighteen people.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/Iranian?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iranian<\/a> Regime\u2019s Sham Trial Turned into a Censorship Campaign<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rLMySQjOFf\">https:\/\/t.co\/rLMySQjOFf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1996298514767208872?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 3, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A frightened one holds hearings about them.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">State media displays the same anxiety over the Resistance\u2019s international standing. One <a href=\"https:\/\/kayhan.ir\/fa\/news\/339291\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kayhan commentary published<\/a> on October 4 attacks retired U.S. General Wesley Clark for praising the NCRI, the MEK, and Maryam Rajavi as an organized alternative with leadership and a program for Iran\u2019s future. Yet Clark\u2019s remarks explicitly state that political change must come from the Iranian people themselves. Kayhan nevertheless turns foreign political support for an Iranian opposition movement into supposed proof of foreign control.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Another propaganda device is the constantly repeated claim that the MEK killed more than 17,000 Iranians. Abdollahi repeated it as unquestionable fact.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But even the regime\u2019s own formulations have not been consistent about that figure. The number functions less as a judicially established accounting than as a propaganda slogan\u2014repeated until allegation becomes presumed fact.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The same method defines the entire trial. Historical allegations are stretched across decades. Present political activity is treated as proof of permanent criminality. Membership becomes guilt by association. Social-media activity becomes evidence of terrorism. International political support becomes foreign conspiracy.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The purpose is clear: to erase the distinction between opposition and crime.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Deeply troubled by the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UN?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UN<\/a> Special Rapporteur&#39;s report exposing its atrocity crimes and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/genocide?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#genocide<\/a> in the 1980s, the world&#39;s leading executioner per capita is using a sham trial in <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/Tehran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Tehran<\/a> to attack the UN. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TLSxwMB8an\">pic.twitter.com\/TLSxwMB8an<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1836733334094774613?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 19, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yet in attempting to depict the Resistance as weak, Tehran has produced the opposite result.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If the MEK were politically irrelevant, the clerical regime would not devote judges, prosecutors, intelligence agencies, Friday prayer leaders, state television, and major state media outlets to fighting it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The campaign\u2019s purposes emerge from the regime\u2019s own statements: intimidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-protests\/iran-protests-and-youth-a-generation-striving-for-freedom-wont-tolerate-oppression\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">young Iranians against joining<\/a> the Resistance, mobilize loyalists against unrest, and pressure foreign governments to hand over opponents. The claims of irrelevance sit beside detailed warnings about recruitment, organization and Resistance Units.
