The Iranian regime’s president Masoud Pezeshkian offered an unusually explicit inventory on October 15 of the domestic weaknesses confronting the ruling establishment, naming crises in electricity, water, gas, fuel, the environment, the banking system, the budget and pension funds. Speaking at a Nurses\u2019 Day event, he said<\/a> Iran\u2019s adversaries had calculated that these accumulated problems could be exploited to produce social \u201crupture and division,\u201d and acknowledged that the imbalances themselves remain unresolved.<\/p>\n

He warned repeatedly against allowing economic and social disagreements to become \u201cdeep divisions,\u201d appealed for preservation of \u201csocial cohesion,\u201d and acknowledged that some Iranians have grievances and have experienced injustice. He also said accumulated social problems cannot simply be corrected by issuing orders or adopting short-term fixes. The language suggests that the government increasingly views economic dysfunction not simply as a policy problem but as a potential catalyst for wider instability.<\/p>\n

That anxiety was echoed elsewhere in state messaging. Tasnim on October<\/a> 15 promoted continuing pro-regime nighttime gatherings in several cities as evidence that \u201cthe enemy\u2019s calculations\u201d had been defeated. In Boushehr, the IRGC mouthpiece marked the 227th consecutive night of such gatherings; an MP separately described sustained regime loyalists’ participation as essential to preserving cohesion. The intensity with which state media are advertising demonstrations of loyalty is itself revealing at a moment when senior officials are simultaneously warning that unresolved domestic problems could fracture society.<\/p>\n
