Surveillance records documented meetings with an Iranian intelligence officer operating under diplomatic cover at Iran\u2019s embassy in Stockholm. A Swedish court upheld his dismissal in June 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new manager faces a preliminary investigation into suspected unauthorized database access. Sandberg resigned amid speculation that he had fallen victim to an Iranian intelligence honey trap. The episode illustrated the vulnerability of senior officials to potentially compromising relationships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More concrete evidence emerged in Denmark, where a Norwegian citizen of Iranian heritage was convicted of participating in an Iranian intelligence operation targeting an exiled opposition figure. In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/world\/norwegian-found-guilty-of-spying-for-iran-in-denmark-idUSKBN23X1ER\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mohammad Davoudzadeh Loloei<\/a> received a seven-year prison sentence for illegal intelligence activities and complicity in an attempted killing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sweden has witnessed similar cases. In 2019, a Stockholm court convicted a Swedish-Iraqi man of gathering intelligence on Iranian opposition activists for Tehran. In 2024, Sveriges Radio revealed that a couple who had entered Sweden under false Afghan identities were suspected of preparing attacks on Jewish targets on behalf of Iran. They were expelled without being prosecuted for the alleged plot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The dangers are not confined to immigration institutions. In 2023, former Swedish security official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-a-world\/tehrans-spy-arrested-in-sweden-a-grim-reminder-of-rooted-terrorism-in-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peyman Kia<\/a> was sentenced to life imprisonment for espionage.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Iranian regime\u2019s embassies are NOT <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/diplomatic?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#diplomatic<\/a> missions \u2014 they are global headquarters for sanctions evasion, espionage &amp; terror.<br \/>Diplomatic pouches smuggle drone parts, cash &amp; explosives. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/IRGC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IRGC<\/a> &amp; MOIS \u201cdiplomats\u201d run the networks. <br \/>Enough. <br \/>Cose every Iranian regime embassy\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iran_policy\/status\/2062980031882858637?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 5, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By May 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sakerhetspolisen.se\/ovriga-sidor\/other-languages\/english-engelska\/press-room\/news\/news\/2024-05-30-iran-is-using-criminal-networks-in-sweden.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S\u00e4po had publicly accused<\/a> the Iranian regime of employing Swedish criminal networks to conduct violent operations against its perceived enemies, including Israeli and Jewish interests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Yet European governments have continued pursuing diplomatic accommodation with the clerical dictatorship, frequently treating intelligence scandals as discrete security incidents rather than evidence of a sustained campaign of transnational repression.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest scandal lends renewed urgency to the longstanding demands of the Iranian Resistance, which has consistently rejected Western appeasement of Tehran.
