NCRI – The mullahs' regime took advantage of summer recess to purge out nine other professors with years of experience in their own fields. The nine were on the top of the list of most renowned Iranian professors of political science teaching at prestigious Tehran University. <\/p>\n
Since the inception of the mullahs' regime in the late 1970s, it has been a pattern to fire professors with experience and suspected of political affiliations with the Iranian opposition the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK). The pick of such purges were in the spring of 1980 when Khomeini announced his brand of "cultural revolution" in the higher education schools nationwide. Following was three years of something mullahs' called "cleansing the universities from counter- revolutionary elements." <\/p>\n
Since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's ascendancy to power, he has tried to complete the job of his mentor, Khomeini, by purging out any form of opposition to his regime especially at the universities. <\/p>\n
Ahmadinejad's prime target was Tehran University. He first appointed Abbass-Ali Amid-Zanjani to head the school and later began sweeping all professors suspect of opposition to his government. <\/p>\n
In September 5, 2006, Speaking on "Youth Day", Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sought a purge of experienced professors from the country's universities under the pretext that they were too "liberal" and "secular," the official news agency IRNA reported.<\/p>\n
He said, "The educational system had been affected by secularism for the last 150 years. Colonialism is after extending its own secular system… Today, students should shout at the president and ask why liberal and secular university lecturers are present in the universities."<\/p>\n
On June 21 of the same year, the newly-appointed Tehran University Chancellor Abbass-Ali Amid-Zanjani fired 50 senior faculty members of Tehran University.<\/p>\n
Following a directive in August of 2007, the Tehran university security, a branch of Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) announced, “University professors are required to inform the institution’s security office of all their anticipated foreign trips, even for personal reasons, in advance. Trips for research or scientific studies funded by the state universities or non-governmental institutions are not exempted from the rule.” <\/p>\n
Amid-Zanjani wasted no time in firing three professors, Hossein Bashireeh, Hadi Samti, and Syeed Shah-handeh, the state-run daily Mardom-Salaray reported on August 24, 2007. Apparently, the three took separate trips abroad not informing the university security in advance. <\/p>\n
Finding different excuses to act on such matters is no hard job for Ahmadinejad and his cronies in Iran. When they easily commit the most heinous crimes such as executing teenagers or condemning citizens to death by stoning, firing a professor means nothing in comparison.
