NCRI – I very much regret that for health reasons I’m not able to be here today. But my wife has been asked to read a brief message for me. This is an important day, not just for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran but also for the principles of democracy and rule of law in Europe. European institutions and courts must, of course, like national bodies, control and restraint our activities.<\/p>\n
At the same time, such control must be maintained in the Union, according to the principles laid down by the law of the Union. This means that in the first place, the conditions to fulfill the test of what is terrorist activity are defined and satisfied. After much parliamentary activity, the Community pointed the way clearly. The judgment of the European Court of First Instance gave an important lead in the process. <\/p>\n
The judgment of the Proscribed Organizations Appeal Commission of the UK and the Court of Appeal showed firmly and definitively that on proper analysis there was no evidence or material upon which the decision to put the PMOI on the list could any longer be justified. <\/p>\n
Looking at all the material of recent years, to which PMOI members and supporters and those in and out of parliaments have contributed, it is quite plain that there is no justification for maintaining the PMOI on the proscribed list. The rule of law does not allow it. The rule of law requires it to be set aside. <\/p>\n
Those who have peacefully supported the rule of law in Europe and the brave and dedicated people of Ashraf have contributed so much do not merely deserve more; They are entitled to such results. As a lawyer, as a citizen, I am delighted that these results have been achieved. And I express my warmest congratulations to the PMOI members and to their inspirational leader, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.
