NCRI – In an urgent letter to Arab leaders, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, called for adoption immediate measures by the Arab summit to prevent a human catastrophe against 3,500 defenseless residents of Camp Ashraf, in Iraq.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Rajavi said that the mullahs’ regime, faced with widespread revulsion of the Iranian people, is attempting to obliterate the residents of Ashraf and at same time deal a strong blow to its main opposition and remove the most important political and cultural obstacle to its fundamentalist influence in Iraq and complete its ominous domination over that country.<\/p>\n
Recalling the arrogant remarks by Ali Khamenei, Iranian regime\u2019s Supreme Leader, in a meeting with the President of the Republic of Iraq on February 28, who said \u201cthe bilateral agreement on the expulsion of the PMOI from Iraq must be implemented and we are awaiting that,” she enumerated some of the suppressive restrictions imposed on Ashraf residents by Iraq\u2019s National Security Advisor Mouwaffaq al-Rubaie. She emphasized that these measures have turned Ashraf into a prison camp laying the ground for a human catastrophe.<\/p>\n
She reiterated that defending Ashraf residents is also protection of Islamic values and genuine Arab traditions. This would counter the clerical regime\u2019s aggression against countries in the region and other Arab and Islamic countries; a wicked aggression that started in Iraq and extended to Palestine, Lebanon, Bahrain, Egypt and Morocco. Thus, Iranians and all Muslims expect that the Arab summit to take a stance and a firm measure on this issue.<\/p>\n
She urged that the Summit in its final statement underline the need to respect the rights of Ashraf residents as the guests of Arab community and political refugee protected under the Fourth Geneva Convention.<\/p>\n
Ashraf residents, a third of whom are women, have been living in Iraq lawfully since 1986. As guests to Iraqi people for the past 23 years, they have established the best relationship with them. In separate statements, 5.2 million Iraqis in June 2006, three million Iraqi Shiites in June 2008 and majority of Iraqi political leaders and parties who are not affiliated with the Iranian regime have supported the PMOI to remain in Iraq. They consider this organization as a cultural and political bulwark against infiltration of Islamic fundamentalism. The nationalist Iraqi forces, be it Shiite or Sunni, acknowledge the fact that no one but the Iranian regime wants the expulsion of the PMOI from Iraq and the independence of any Iraqi political group is assessed by its attitude toward the PMOI.<\/p>\n
