NCRI – Several Iranian associations in Tehran and other cities across the country, joined long list of associations demanding immediate intervention by international authorities to lift the siege on Camp Ashraf, home to the members of main Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) residing in Iraq.<\/p>\n
Some 3,500 residents of Camp Ashraf, located north of Baghdad, regarded as ‘protected persons’ under the Fourth Geneva Convention, have come under increasing pressures at the behest of the Iranian regime, which seeks to expel them from neighbouring Iraq.<\/p>\n
The following Iranian associations have joined in voicing support for Camp Ashraf residents includes:<\/p>\n
Association of Bazaaris in Central Tehran
Association of Traders in Isfahan Province
Relatives of Ashraf residents in Azerbaijan Province
Association of University Students in Khouzestan
PMOI Supporters in Mazandaran Province
Kurdish Employees Supporting the Residents of Ashraf
Association of University Students in Hamedan<\/p>\n
In separate statements and letters, the above-mentioned associations condemned the illegal orders by the Iraqi National Security Advisor against Ashraf residents. “These orders serve to fulfill the demands of Khamenei [Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader] and Rafsanjani.”<\/p>\n
They warned that the mullahs’ regime intends to create a human catastrophe in Ashraf. They called upon international community to immediately intervene in order to put an end to the siege and restrictions against Ashraf City by Iraqi forces. <\/p>\n
Despite risks involved in writing letters to international organizations and foreign government officials, PMOI sympathizers in various Iranian cities have sent hundreds of letters to officials in the US and Iraq, as well as to human rights organizations in support of Asharf Camp.<\/p>\n
In recent weeks, on the orders of Mouwaffaq al-Rubaie, Iraqi National Security Advisor, Iraqi forces have blockaded Camp Ashraf, north of Baghdad, limiting supplies to the Camp.
Earlier this month, the Iraqi forces prevented Iraqi physicians from entering the camp to treat critically ill patients, although after worldwide protests they ultimately were allowed in.
The repressive measures against Ashraf residents began following the February 28 meeting in Tehran in which the regime’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, blatantly told the Iraqi President in an arrogant tone, “The bilateral agreement for expelling the PMOI from Iraq must be implemented.” <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
