The lawmakers say in a letter that the People’s Mujahedeen Organization of Iran [PMOI\/MEK] “has clearly demonstrated” it is a friend of the West and an enemy of religious fundamentalism.<\/p>\n
The Mujahedeen were placed on Washington’s of banned organizations in 1997 in an apparent effort by Washington to appease Tehran’s theocratic government.<\/p>\n
The European Union also banned the group, but removed it from the terrorist list in January after a string of court decisions in the group’s favor.<\/p>\n
The European Parliament, elected by the EU’s 375 million eligible voters, has 785 members.<\/p>\n
