Once again, pressures and threats for the expulsion of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) from Iraq are mounting. After statements made by former Iraqi National Security Advisor, Muwaffaq al-Rubaie, the push now continues to expel them from Iraq. The threats against Camp Ashraf have prompted protests by international human rights organizations. Ashraf residents are subject to international safeguards, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention, which ensures their protection. Have they really obtained such protection? The PMOI is warning about the occurrence of a humanitarian catastrophe. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi has addressed the international community, and urged US President Barack Obama and UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, to intervene in order to end the siege on Ashraf. Mehdi Oghabai, who is in Ashraf, says: This suppressive measure happens while Iraqi military forces are responsible for protecting Ashraf and there is nothing in Ashraf which would justify the entry of Iraqi police forces there.<\/p>\n
The simultaneity of this surprise measure with orders issued by the Iranian regime President Ahmadinejad and the regime’s Supreme Security Council Secretary, Saeed Jalili, to the Iraqi government to implement a bilateral agreement for suppressing Camp Ashraf residents and to impose more pressure and restrictions on them, which have been widely reported in the Iranian regime’s media outlets, only serves to provoke concern about the potential for the occurrence of a humanitarian catastrophe at Camp Ashraf.<\/p>\n
This also happens at the same time as social protests in Iran in the run up to the Iranian regime’s show of presidential elections. … We are certain that unconventional pressures are being exerted by the Iranian regime on the Iraqi government with the goal of triggering a new crisis.
