Today, at 6 a.m., in Gohardasht prison in Karaj, prisoners were transferred to the prison yard under the pretext of inspecting their cells and they were not permitted to return to their cells. The situation continued until 1:00 p.m. local time. This is while most of the prisoners are fasting in the month of Ramadan.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the distribution of newspapers which had been previously permitted has stopped since a few days ago.<\/p>\n
In another development, Mr. Osanlou, leader of Tehran's bus drivers union, who has been in prison for a long time was transferred to the office of protection and intelligence this morning, an action which has caused concern amongst the prisoners.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, August 30, prison guards at Gohardasht prison violently attacked prisoners in Ward 4. They beat the defenseless inmates with batons and cables and subjected them to humiliating insults. The agents then began to inspect the cells while destroying the prisoners’ belongings and confiscating their hand-written notes.<\/p>\n
The suppressive agents transferred all political prisoners from Ward 4 to the prison yard and kept them under the sun in scorching heat for about 5 hours.<\/p>\n
In the course of the attack, a number of prisoners, including Afshin Baymani and Hamed
Heydarpour, were transferred to the office of protection and intelligence.<\/p>\n
