NCRI – The Iranian Resistance called on the Greek government and judiciary to arrest Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, the Iranian regime’s interior minister, who is one of the key officials involved in the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988. Pour-Mohammadi is currently in Athens to attend the Conference on Illegal Immigration and Human Trafficking.Pour-Mohammadi, a mullah, had been a deputy minister of the Iranian Intelligence Ministry since its inception in 1984 and was the ministry’s representative in the three-man “Death Committee” in 1988 that was tasked with implementing Khomeini’s fatwa (religious decree) to massacre Mojahedin and other dissident political prisoners in that year.
Ayatollah Montazeri, who was in line to succeed Khomeini at the time, wrote to Khomeini on July 31, 1988 that, “The execution of several thousand prisoners in a few days will not have positive repercussions and will not be mistake-free.” Khomeini had emphasized in his fatwa that in issuing the death sentences for prisoners “the view of the majority of the trio consisting of the religious judge, the revolutionary prosecutor, and the intelligence ministry representative must be obeyed.” Montazeri wrote to the “Death Committee” members, including Pour-Mohammadi who was the intelligence ministry representative in Evin prison, on August 15, 1988 that, “Such massacres without trial, particularly when the victims are prisoners and those in captivity, will definitely benefit them in the long run. The world will condemn us.” In another letter to Khomeini on August 2 the same year, Montazeri protested that, “it is the intelligence official who has absolute control and others are under his influence.” Therefore, there is no doubt that in the definite responsibility of the criminal Mullah Pour-Mohammadi in the murder of thousands of political prisoners who were serving their sentences.
Pour-Mohammadi held the post of Acting Deputy and Deputy in the Intelligence Ministry’s Foreign Affairs Directorate under Ali Fallahiyan and Qorban-Ali Dorri Najafabadi. He was among the principals in the "chain murders" in the 1990s, in which numerous dissidents, writers and intellectuals were abducted and brutally murdered. After the grisly murders of Dariush and Parvaneh Forouhar in autumn 1998, the killers called Pour-Mohammadi as the commander of this shocking crime to inform him of their "success." After the scandal, he was appointed to the Supreme Leader’s special office for intelligence and security.
Thousands of Iranian refugees in Europe and the United States or their families have been victims of Pour-Mohammadi’s crimes and are ready to testify against him. This executioner is by any standard responsible for crimes against humanity.
Greece, as a member state of the European Union, faces a historical duty today. Pour-Mohammadi must be arrested on charges on torture, genocide, and murder of dissidents and be brought to justice before an international criminal tribunal. The Iranian Resistance calls on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Security Council, the EU Commissioner for Freedom, Security and Justice and other international human rights advocates to assist to bring the murderer Pour-Mohammadi to face justice.
