NCRI – Europe’s leading powers ratcheted up the pressure on Iran regime over its nuclear ambitions, urging UN Security Council action and saying two years of delicate negotiations had reached a dead end.
Speaking after a crisis meeting in Berlin, the foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany called for an emergency meeting of the UN nuclear watchdog to refer the dossier to the world body’s executive.<\/p>\n
It follows a storm of international criticism after Iranian regime broke the seals at three nuclear plants in order to resume research on uranium enrichment.<\/p>\n
"We believe the time has now come for the Security Council to become involved to reinforce the authority of IAEA resolutions," the European troika said, referring to the International Atomic Energy Agency.<\/p>\n
"We will, therefore, be calling for an extraordinary IAEA board meeting with a view for it to take the necessary action to that end."<\/p>\n
"The talks with Iran are at a dead end," Germany’s Frank-Walter Steinmeier told a press conference in Berlin after the meeting.<\/p>\n
In Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Iran’s actions "feed suspicion that this programme could have a hidden military aspect." <\/p>\n
In Beijing, a foreign ministry spokesman voiced China’s "concern" at the regime’s move and urged Tehran to resume dialogue. <\/p>\n
In Berlin hundreds of Iranians and supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran staged a demonstration in front of the building where EU leaders met. Demonstrators called for immediate referral of the clerical regime to the UN Security Council for a tough trade sanction. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
