Mr. al-Tamimi noted in his statement, “The residents of Ashraf are protected by divine traditions and international regulations, particularly the Fourth Geneva Conventions, and the Iraqi government must implement the European Parliament’s April 24, 2009 resolution on Ashraf and the rights of its residents.”<\/p>\n
The Palestinian Chief Justice also condemned the recent arrest warrants against the residents of Ashraf, which were dictated by the clerical regime in Iran, and said, “These arrest warrants were issued in contravention of international laws and standards; respecting laws and protecting the independence of the judiciary is among the most important components of a country’s sovereignty and domestic security and stability. It is incumbent on any government to keep the influence of political conflicts or military disagreements at a distance from the judiciary.”<\/p>\n
Dr. al-Tamimi added, “Humanitarian and religious relations call for respect for all of the human rights of Ashraf residents and Palestinian refugees in Baladiyat region near Baghdad, because they are the guests of our brother country of Iraq and are staying there temporarily. They are awaiting the day to return to their homeland.”<\/p>\n
