NCRI – Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, described death sentences and heavy prison terms issued for families of camp Ashraf residents and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) as a sign of the regime's helplessness in face of widespread support for the Iranian Resistance and particularly for Ashraf residents.<\/p>\n
She said that the regime's Supreme Leader, having lost his clout, is directly guiding these crimes. He is being too naïve thinking that he will be able to break the resolve PMOI members and those who are struggling for freedom in Iran by issuing such verdicts. He does not realize that these brutalities will only double people’s determination to change the clerical dictatorship. Struggle for freedom will no doubt continue until the entire regime is rejected and freedom and democracy is established in Iran, Mrs. Rajavi reiterated. <\/p>\n
Following the reaffirmation of Mr. Jaafar Kazemi's death sentence, a kangaroo court headed by the regime’s notorious judge Salavati sentenced Mr. Javad Lari to death, Mr. Hamid Haaeri to 15 years prison term and exile, and Mr. Mohsen Dokmehchi to 10 years in prison on August 1.<\/p>\n
Javad Lari, 55, a Tehran Bazaar merchant supporting the PMOI and a former political prisoner of 1980's was arrested on September 14, 2009. He was transferred to Ward 209 of notorious Evin Prison and subjected to torture to give forced confessions. <\/p>\n
Hamid Haeri, 60, father to a Camp Ashraf resident, a former political prisoner of the 1980's was arrested on 6 December 2009. He is suffering from complications caused by tortures and various illnesses including heart problems. Haeri has already suffered from two heart attacks due to psychological and physical pressures and is currently in a critical condition.<\/p>\n
Mohsen Dokmehchi, 53, a well-known merchant in Tehran's Bazaar and a former political prisoner of the 1980's was arrested on September 7, 2009. He was the subject of hostility by the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security because of having a daughter in Camp Ashraf. His father, Ali Dokmehchi, also a well-respected Tehran Bazaar merchant died last week due to hardships he endured as a result of his son's captivity and pressures on other members of his family.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Rajavi, while warning about the torture and execution of political prisoners and despicable conditions of prisons, urged the UN Secretary General, the UN Security Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human rights, and other relevant UN officials and bodies as well as the European Union member states to take immediate measures to prevent the execution of political prisoners and investigate the appalling state of prisons.<\/p>\n
