{"id":9601,"date":"2011-01-03T09:09:51","date_gmt":"2011-01-03T09:09:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news1613067580\/news-sp-256\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/9601-the-bassijis-were-compelled-to-take-up-batons-regimes-broadcasting-chief"},"modified":"2023-01-13T18:57:50","modified_gmt":"2023-01-13T17:57:50","slug":"the-bassijis-were-compelled-to-take-up-batons-regimes-broadcasting-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/the-bassijis-were-compelled-to-take-up-batons-regimes-broadcasting-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"The Bassijis were compelled to take up batons: regime\u2019s broadcasting chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"basij\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-30329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2007\/02\/basij.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"margin: 5px;float: left\" width=\"200\" height=\"175\" \/>NCRI &#8211; During the 2009 mass uprisings by the Iranian people, suppressive forces like the Bassij \u201ccame to the scene with all their might and did their utmost to protect\u201d the regime, the head of the state-run TV and Radio, Ezatollah Zarghami, said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the state-run ISNA news agency, in referring to the regime\u2019s suppression of the protests, Zarghami told the Bassij commander and officials during a ceremony, that, the Bassij \u201cwas even forced to use batons and sticks to counter [protests] in every street and alleyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, foreign media sources staged a massive propaganda to depict the Bassij as unpopular and against the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, Zarghami implicitly referred to the popular hatred towards the Bassij, saying, \u201cFollowing the sedition [protests], we decided to reinvent the image of the Bassij in the society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, despite the fact that the resources of the state-run TV and radio have been allocated to the Bassij, he suggested, the output of the Bassij, which have been suffering from low morale, have not succeeded in inviting any sympathy towards the forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout any exaggeration, the members of Bassij are everywhere and we can say that the entire TV and Radio organization is influenced by the Bassij. \u2026 But, my expectations are much more than this.
