NCRI – Simultaneous with executing an attack against Camp Ashraf, Iraq, the Iranian regime claimed in a deceitful scheme that the al-Iraqiya leader, Dr. Ayad Allawi, has written a \u201cconfidential letter\u201d to regime officials, urging them to \u201cintervene in Iraqi affairs and support his bid for power\u201d in exchange for his willingness to expel members of the main Iranian opposition at Camp Ashraf from Iraqi territory.<\/p>\n
But on Friday, the Arab-language daily Asharq al-Awsat reported that an Iraqiya spokesman quickly dismissed the allegation.<\/p>\n
Meyson al-Damlouji said such stories disseminated by the Iranian regime are \u201ccomical and ludicrous.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a phone interview from Baghdad with Asharq al-Awsat, Mr. al-Damlouji described the claim as \u201cridiculous\u201d because \u201cthe stance of Dr. Allawi and of Iraqiya bloc\u2019s officials with respect to Iran\u2019s meddling is well known and all of us stand against the regime\u2019s influence in Iraq.\u201d<\/p>\n
The goal of such claims is to insult the leaders and members of the Iraqiya bloc and to portray its parliamentary faction as weak, al-Damlouji added.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch false statements are released at a time when Dr. Allawi is preparing to assume his responsibilities as the chairman of the most important political council, the Council for Strategic Policies,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd Iran knows Allawi is opposed to its influence in Iraq.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. al-Damlouji added, \u201cIf Dr. Allawi sought to gain power and privilege through making concessions to Iran, he would have accepted multiple invitations to visit Tehran, all of which he in fact refused.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that Iraqiya was, in accordance with its electoral and legal rights, responsible for forming a new government, and the leader of Iraqiya did not need to make concessions to Iran and others.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Iraqiya spokesman added, \u201cWhen Allawi was prime minister, he said the PMOI, whose members were disarmed, are political refugees and their status is subject to the Fourth Geneva Convention. Iranian regime leaders know full well that Iraq will not expel anyone who has taken refuge in it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Camp Ashraf, Iraq, is located in Iraq\u2019s Diyala province. It is home to\u00a0 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK).<\/p>\n
On Friday, Iranian regime agents, with the backing of the Iraqi prime minister\u2019s office, attacked the residents of Camp Ashraf, injuring hundreds of the residents, including dozens of women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
