{"id":9812,"date":"2011-02-05T09:46:14","date_gmt":"2011-02-05T09:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/statements\/nuclear\/9812-us-senators-urge-germany-to-restrict-iranian-regime-bank"},"modified":"2023-01-13T20:47:37","modified_gmt":"2023-01-13T19:47:37","slug":"us-senators-urge-germany-to-restrict-iranian-regime-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/nuclear\/us-senators-urge-germany-to-restrict-iranian-regime-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"US Senators urge Germany to restrict Iranian regime bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"german-regime\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-36801\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/02\/german-regime.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"margin: 5px;float: left\" width=\"200\" height=\"96\" \/>NCRI &#8211; Nine influential US Senators have urged Germany to stop Hamburg-based bank Europ\u00e4isch-Iranische Handelsbank (EIH) from routing funds in support of the Iranian regime\u2019s nuclear programme, warning that all entities doing so will be debarred from the US financial system, India\u2019s Economic Times reported on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The letter from the Senators was written to German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on February 1, before India&#8217;s Finance Ministry announced its decision to pay the regime for Iranian crude oil through EIH in euros, according to Economic Times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;EIH is one of Iran&#8217;s few remaining access points to the European financial system,&#8221; said the letter signed by Senators Frank R Lautenberg, Mike Johanns, Barbara Boxer, Bob Casey, Scott Brown, Al Franken, Kirsten Gillibrand, Mark Kirk, Jon Kyl, Joe Lieberman and Jerry Moran.<\/p>\n<p>The senators also said the threat posed by a nuclear-armed Iranian regime is \u201cundeniable\u201d and strong sanctions should be imposed to cut the regime\u2019s economic means to develop such weapons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Europ\u00e4isch-Iranische Handelsbank must halt these practices or be closed immediately,&#8221; they said.<\/p>\n<p>Expressing their grave concern with the continued financial support of the Iranian regime\u2019s nuclear proliferation activity by EIH in Hamburg, the senators urged the German government to take immediate action to end these practices, according to Economic Times.<\/p>\n<p>The paper reported EIH was placed under sanctions by the United States in September 2010 for its facilitation of the regime\u2019s nuclear proliferation activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NCRI &ndash; Nine influential US Senators have urged Germany to stop Hamburg-based bank Europ&auml;isch-Iranische Handelsbank (EIH) from routing funds in support of the Iranian regime&rsquo;s nuclear programme, warning that all [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[175],"class_list":{"0":"post-9812","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-nuclear","7":"tag-updated"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
