Secretary general of the Islamic Unity Party in Iraq
NCRI – At 8.30 am on Tuesday, the secretary general of the Islamic Unity Party in Iraq, Ayatollah Mohammad Moussawi Qasemi, who was one of Iraq’s most prominent Shiite religious personalities and adamant opponents of the crimes and meddling by the religious fascism ruling Iran, was killed at the hands of the regime’s agents.
A remote-detonated explosive package went off as Ayatollah Qasemi was entering his office in the district of Qassem in the town of Hella.
In recent weeks, Ayatollah Qasemi warned in numerous interviews and statements of Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq and announced his support for the presence of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran in Iraq. As such, he drew the ire of the mullahs’ regime and had been threatened by its agents.
The Islamic Unity Party in Iraq, under the leadership of Ayatollah Qasemi, issued a statement on August 25, announcing, “While the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq is taking place in the most disgusting manner by its proxy militias, taking a heavy toll from the people of Iraq, … concentrating on the expulsion of the PMOI from Iraq is only a cover for the interventions of the Iranian regime in Iraq and a means to distract public attention from more important issues. The PMOI is the anti-thesis and a formidable political barrier against terrorism and fundamentalism of the Iranian regime. For this reason, it is the No. 1 target of the enemies’ political attacks and negative propaganda.”
The National Council of Resistance of Iran condoles the Iraqi people, in particular the Shiite community, on the terrorist assassination of Ayatollah Qasemi and calls on the international community and religious figures in Islamic countries, in particular Shiite leaders, to condemn this heinous crime. It also reiterates the need for the creation of an international committee to investigate the crimes in Iraq of the “central banker of terror” with particular attention to the assassination of Ayatollah Qasemi. It calls on the Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I) and all national and democratic forces to prevent the Iranian regime’s meddling and criminal activities in Iraq.
