In a recent podcast interview, Ambassador Lincoln Bloomfield Jr., former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Political and Military Affairs, shared his insights into the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and their vision for a democratic power transition in Iran. Amb. Bloomfield, who has served in several high-profile roles including Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, emphasized the NCRI’s principles and their commitment to a democratic future for Iran.
Ambassador Bloomfield praised the NCRI’s Ten-Point Plan, which outlines a future in Iran based on gender equality, the abolition of the death penalty, and the separation of religion and state. “The Ten-Point Plan is not a power grab. It’s about giving Iranians the freedom to choose their own leadership,” Bloomfield explained. He emphasized that the NCRI’s vision is fundamentally about ending dictatorship and restoring popular sovereignty through an orderly and democratic process.

Amb. Bloomfield refuted accusations that the NCRI operates as a cult, attributing such claims to a misunderstanding of Persian political traditions and the organization’s legitimate, deeply rooted cultural practices. “This is not a cult. It’s a movement grounded in the rich tradition of Persian spirit and politics,” he asserted. He highlighted that the NCRI’s approach is inclusive, embracing Iran’s ethnic diversity and religious plurality while fostering tolerance and good neighborly relations.
In addition to his endorsement of the NCRI’s principles, Bloomfield spoke highly of Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI’s president-elect. He highlighted her intellectual prowess and her ability to analyze the inner dynamics of the Iranian regime. “She is one of the sharpest leaders I’ve ever encountered. Her ability to break down the regime’s workings is unparalleled,” he said. Bloomfield noted that Rajavi’s speeches are compelling and provide deep insights into the resistance’s strategies and the regime’s vulnerabilities.

Bloomfield also underscored Mrs. Rajavi’s personal history and sacrifices, which add to her credibility and commitment to the cause of Iranian freedom. He mentioned the tragic losses she has endured, including the deaths of her sisters under both the Shah’s regime and the current clerical rule. “She’s someone who has paid a lot of dues,” he stated, reinforcing her dedication and the legitimacy of her leadership.
The ambassador reflected on the growing global support for the NCRI, citing endorsements from over a hundred former heads of government and parliamentary majorities worldwide. “The NCRI has finally broken through as propaganda has dissipated, and the tide has turned,” Bloomfield said, indicating the increasing international recognition of the NCRI’s legitimacy and its vision for Iran.
