Two protesters killed by direct fire from suppressive forces in Lordegan; IRGC news agency reports severe damage to government buildings.
The nationwide uprising in Iran entered its fifth day on the morning of Thursday, January 1, with demonstrations and clashes with suppressive forces in Tehran and many other cities, including Lordegan, Marvdasht, Kermanshah, Delfan, and Arak.
In Lordegan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, people gathered to demonstrate starting in the morning, chanting ‘Death to the dictator’ and ‘Death to Khamenei,’ and were brutally attacked by suppressive forces. Courageous youths defended themselves as the forces fired directly upon the demonstrators. At least two protesters were martyred, and several were injured. The IRGC’s Fars news agency wrote: ‘People started throwing stones at the city’s administrative buildings, including the governor’s office, the city’s prayer hall, the Martyr’s Foundation, the municipality building, and banks, and then moved towards the governor’s office… Police forces fired tear gas to disperse the individuals. The buildings of the Martyr’s Foundation, the prayer hall, the governor’s office, the judiciary, and several banks were severely damaged. An informed source reports the deaths of two people during these clashes.’
In Tehran this morning, fruit sellers in the District 19 fruit and vegetable market held a rally and march, chanting ‘Honorable merchants, support, support’ and ‘Close down, close down,’ calling on others to continue the strike. The State Security Force (SSF) fired tear gas at the demonstrators to disperse them, leading to clashes.
In Marvdasht, gatherings and clashes began this morning on Enghelab Street. The suppressive forces used water cannons to confront the people, but the protesters continued their demonstration, chanting slogans such as ‘Cannons, tanks, firecrackers, the mullahs must get lost’ and ‘This is the month of blood, Seyed Ali [Khamenei] will be overthrown.’ During these protests, angry youths set an SSF vehicle on fire.
In Kermanshah, widespread demonstrations began at Silo, Ojagh, and Modares Crossroads, with a large crowd moving towards Azadi Square (Garage Square). SSF agents clashed with the people, and the chant ‘Dishonorable, dishonorable’ echoed in Azadi Square.
