In a resolution adopted by 23 votes in favor and three against, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) referred the Iranian regime’s nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council for the first time in 20 years.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), welcomed the referral of the nuclear file of the religious fascism ruling Iran to the United Nations Security Council and said placing this regime under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter is a necessary step toward international peace and security, but it is not enough.
Mrs. Rajavi added as long as this regime remains in power, it will neither abandon its efforts to acquire a nuclear bomb, nor cease its warmongering and export of terrorism, nor stop its repression, torture and executions. The ultimate solution to preventing a terrorist dictatorship from acquiring the most dangerous weapon is the overthrow of this regime by the Iranian people and their organized Resistance.
Mrs. Rajavi stressed that while considering the Iranian regime’s nuclear file as a threat to the world, the Security Council must also address the executions and repression in Iran. The referral of this regime’s human rights violations to the Security Council, following 72 condemnations by the UN General Assembly and other United Nations bodies, is an urgent and serious demand of the Iranian people and their Resistance.
