Iran: Regime’s judiciary chief brings case against Ahmadinejad officials

Larejani-AhmadinejadNCRI – In the midst of growing crises and infighting in the Iranian regime’s most senior ranks, the head of the regime’s judiciary has announced a corruption ring tied to the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, according to state-run news agencies.

The indictment concerns 50 people who Sadeq Larijani accused of financial corruption and embezzling billions of dollars.

In a clear reference to the mullahs’ President Ahmadinejad, Larijani said, “We did not expect those who talk about justice to impede a review of some cases. It would not be expedient to name names but those who talk about justice are also creating obstacles.”

Without clarifying the amount of the embezzlement, an outcome of the massive corruption gripping a variety of state organs, Larijani added, “For example, in a case about insurance that was announced months prior, indictments for 50 people are being issued with more in the works … There are numerous other cases available.”

In March, after Larijani announced the arrest of a large corruption ring, state-run media reported, “A senior government official is at the helm of this large multi-billion dollar corruption ring.” Rival factions said the “senior government official” is Ahmadinejad’s First Vice President, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi.
