Mohsen Rafiqdoust, head of the multi-billion dollar Foundation of the Oppressed (“Bonyad-e Mostazafan” in Farsi), also underscored rising tensions among the regime’s dominant faction tied to Ali Khamenei, admitting that there is a possibility of fissures, which should be precluded by more senior figures.
Rafiqdoust, whose comments were published by the state-run Raja News, also pointed to the waning authority of the mullahs’ Supreme Leader and said, “We see that this government is not really obeying the Supreme Leader.”
The regime’s former president, Mohammad Khatami, “never took a stance against the Supreme Leader,” Rafiqdoust added, “whereas it seems that this government is more non-compliant.”
He also chastised the mullahs’ President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for saying that the Majlis (Parliament) does not have authority over the government. “As long as the system remains Islamic, everyone in any position, whether it is the chair of the Expediency Council or a religious authority or the chair of the Assembly of Experts, has to obey the Leader when it comes to issues of governance.”
