NCRI – Hundreds of supporters of the Iranian Resistance staged a lively demonstration in front of the IAEA headquarters in Vienna today. The demonstrators called for an immediate review of the clerical regime’s nuclear file, human rights record, and sponsorship of terrorism by the UN Security Council to adopt comprehensive international sanctions.
The demonstrators condemned the mullahs’ continued nuclear activities, meddling in Iraq, wave of repression in Iran, and the recent suppression of the Tehran transit workers strike and pointed out that the present dangerous situation is a consequence of Western countries appeasement of Tehran. They called the Iranian regime’s threats to peace and tranquility as the flip side of the growing brutal violations of human rights in Iran. They also condemned the appeasement policy and at its center, the proscription of the main Iranian Resistance force, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), as the greatest obstacle to democratic change in Iran.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, said in a message to the demonstrators: “Your repeated gatherings outside the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the rallies and demonstrations by Iranians in other countries, outside government offices or international agencies is motivated only by your concern over the plight of 70 million Iranians who have been suffering under oppression.”
“The Iranian people and their organized resistance, see the specter of the mullahs being armed with nuclear weapons as a disaster that would prolong their rule and add to the misfortune of the Iranian people. In the view of the Iranian people, a nuclear armed regime in Tehran would only result in more torture and hangings of Iranian youth… This is why we tell the IAEA Board of Governors and the world community that if you have the least regard for the fate of Iran’s oppressed people, then it is imperative you abandon once and for all the policy of undue conciliation and futile expectation of improvement in the conduct of the mullahs’ dictatorship. The pain and suffering of the Iranian people and the nightmare facing regional countries must not continue more than it already has,” she added.
In this demonstration, a number of members of parliament from European countries, including Jean-Pierre Malmandier and Mogens Camre addressed the rally. They condemned the appeasement of the clerical regime and the terrorist designation of the PMOI by the EU. They also called for urgent Security Council action on the regime’s nuclear file. A number of NCRI members including Bahram Alivandi, prestigious Iranian painter, Asghar Adibi, and a number of Iranian scientists such as Dr. Alireza Assar and Manouchehr Fakhimi, also addressed the rally.
The demonstrators waved Iran’s national flag, portraits of the Iranian Resistance leadership, and banners against the regime and for Mrs. Rajavi’s third option proposal. They also expressed their full support for the freedom fighters in Ashraf City, in Iraq, and strongly condemned plots of the regime and its agents in the Iraqi government against them.
