Iran: Mullahs’ Plot to Destroy the Traces of the Massacre of 1988

As the movement for justice for martyrs of the massacre of political prisoners inside Iran and at the international level rises up, the clerical regime is trying to destroy the traces of the 1988 massacre. One of these measures is the destruction of mass graves of martyrs in different cities.

In Mashhad a group of 10 henchmen using heavy machinery such as tractors and rollers, destroy mass graves of the PMOI martyrs in Behesht Reza cemetery. Henchmen are deployed in two containers and are working around the clock. By flatening the tombs, they want to make new graves in place so no traces of the mass graves of the martyrs of the 80’s and the massacre of 88 are remained.

In addition to the destruction of mass graves, the clerical regime is trying to destroy other tombs of the PMOI martyrs in three different sections of Behesht Reza.

It is noteworthy that the fate of the city of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi province is in the hands of two of the most brutal clerics of Khamenei faction. One is mullah Ebrahim Raisi, presidential candidate and active member of the Committee of Four that was tasked to implement Khomeini’s order for massacre of PMOI prisoners. The other is wild cleric Ahmad Alam al-Hoda, representative of Khamenei in Mashhad.

In another event, in Ahvaz, in order to destroy the tombs of the martyrs, henchmen began to widen the road. During the excavation of the land at the end of phase 2 of Padadshahr and Ahvaz Bonekdar Boulevard, the traces of corpses in a mass grave that were covered with cement, appeared. Agents of the regime quickly covered mass graves with dirt and operations of widening of the road continued.

The Iranian Resistance calls on international human rights organizations, particularly the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, to condemn this inhuman act and take immediate action to prevent the destruction of evidence and the traces of mass executions and mass killings of political prisoners in 1988. Criminals ruling Iran, who have 120 thousand political executions on their record, must face justice for crimes against humanity.
