  • Uncertain situation of Bijan Kazemi after 7 months of torture in Wards 241 and 209 and a safe house in Qom

  • Death sentence of political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi, a Kurdish activist, upheld by the regime’s Supreme Court

  • International call for urgent action to save the lives of political prisoners on death row

Nine days after the transfer of five political prisoners sentenced to death—Vahid Bani Amerian, Pouya Ghobadi, Babak Alipour, Akbar Daneshvarkar, and Seyed Mohammad Taghavi—from Fashafuyeh Prison to Ghezel Hesar, there is no reliable information about their condition. Their visits and all contact with their families have been cut off.

Today, Saturday, August 16, 2025, the families of these prisoners once again went to Ghezel Hesar Prison to seek information about their loved ones and demanded to meet them; however, the prison guards stated that these five prisoners, by order of the Ministry of Intelligence, must be kept in quarantine in Ghezel Hesar and that contact or visitation with them is prohibited.

These prisoners had been sentenced to death in December 2024 on charges of “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK),” “assembly and collusion against security,” and “armed uprising against the government,” by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Iman Afshari. On Friday, August 8, 2025, during the transfer of prisoners from Fashafuyeh Prison to Evin, they were beaten, separated from the other inmates, and transferred to Ghezel Hesar.

Today, news was also published of the confirmation of the death sentence of Kurdish political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi. The state-run newspaper Shargh, quoting her lawyer, wrote that Branch 39 of the regime’s Supreme Court has upheld her death sentence.

The uncertain situation of Bijan Kazemi after seven months of torture in Wards 241 and 209 and in a safe house in Qom continues. On August 6, 2025, Branch 5 of the Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a bail order of 4 billion tomans for political prisoner Bijan Kazemi. However, despite his relatives securing this exorbitant bail, the judiciary, acting on the orders of the Ministry of Intelligence, has so far refused to release him. Bijan Kazemi, who was arrested on January 19, 2025, continues to face severe restrictions on communication and a ban on visits.

The Iranian Resistance calls for urgent action by the UN High Commissioner and the Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur, and international human rights organizations to save the lives of political prisoners on death row and for an international fact-finding mission to visit Iranian prisons and meet with prisoners.
