Call for Investigation into the Circumstances of Somayeh’s Death and the Crime of the Vile Clerical Regime
- On September 21, 2025, the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance had warned that this political prisoner’s life was in danger.
This morning, Thursday, September 25, 2025, political prisoner Somayeh Rashidi, 42, who was held in the Qarchak prison in Varamin, died as a result of being denied medical care and the delay in her transfer to a hospital.
The Judiciary’s state-run news agency reported this crime under the headline: “The death of a defendant with a history of collaboration with the PMOI in a hospital”, writing that Somayeh Rashidi “was arrested in 2022 and 2023 on charges of connection with the PMOI, but six months after conditional release, she reestablished contact with the PMOI and was arrested again on April 28, 2025” (Mizan, September 25, 2025).
After her arrest and interrogation, Somayeh Rashidi was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison and then, last July, to Qarchak. On September 21, the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran had warned that the life of political prisoner Somayeh Rashidi was in danger.
Following repeated seizures and collapsing several times in the ward, she was finally, with great delay, transferred to Mofatteh Hospital in Varamin on September 16. From the outset, doctors described her condition as “critical.” In recent weeks, a regime operative named Mirza Baqi, who plays the role of a doctor in prison, claimed that Somayeh Rashidi was feigning illness and did not need to be transferred to a hospital.
The denial of access to medical facilities for political prisoners by Khamenei’s henchmen is a long-standing and well-documented crime used to break and torture prisoners to death.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations Special Rapporteur to investigate the circumstances of Somayeh Rashidi’s death and the crime of the vile clerical regime.
The Iranian Resistance also urges the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur on Iran, and the Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women to take urgent action to save the lives of sick prisoners, especially women, in the Qarchak torture center.
