Urgent Call to Save Hamed Validi and Nima Shahi and Refer Case to International Fact-Finding Mission
The names of political prisoners Hamed Validi and Nima Shahi were submitted by the Iranian Resistance to the United Nations and human rights organizations in May 2025, one month prior to the 12-day war, and this news was announced on Simay Azadi television on September 7, 2025.
Following the major demonstrations of compatriots in New York and simultaneous with the activation of United Nations sanctions, the regime’s judiciary, using the repetitive trick of linking the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) to Mossad, sentenced two political prisoners to death and another two prisoners collectively to 26 years of imprisonment.
The head of the judiciary in Alborz Province, in a foolish and convoluted manner and without naming names, declared: “The preliminary verdict in the case of the four-member espionage network linked to Mossad and the Monafeqin [derogatory regime term the regime uses for the PMOI] in Karaj has been issued, and the court has sentenced two defendants to death and imprisonment and two other defendants to imprisonment… the total prison sentence for the defendants exceeds 26 years.” (Mizan News Agency – September 27, 2025).
On September 6, 2025, the day after the Brussels demonstration, Simay Azadi, Iran National Television (INTV), announced: “The regime’s judiciary, with a ridiculous fabrication to link the PMOI to Mossad, reported on a court session regarding the accusations against four defendants in the espionage and terrorist network of Mossad and the PMOI in Alborz Province.”
On the same day, the PMOI’s spokesperson, regarding this “fraudulent show and clerical kangaroo court,” stated: “The names of those arrested in May 2025, one month before the 12-day war, were submitted by the Iranian Resistance to the United Nations and human rights organizations.”
Hamed Validi, a 45-year-old civil engineer, and Nima Shahi, a 38-year-old technical worker, both residents of Karaj, were arrested along with their relatives in Tehran on May 13, 2025, and subjected to interrogation and torture. Any claim of their connection with Mossad is an outright lie, reflecting the regime’s desperation and its urgent need for such fabrications against the PMOI.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the High Commissioner, the Human Rights Council, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Iran, the International Fact-Finding Mission, and other human rights bodies to take immediate action to save the lives of political prisoners Hamed Validi and Nima Shahi and to refer this case to the International Fact-Finding Mission.
