Iran: Urgent Call to Action to Annul the Death Sentence of Goli Koohkan

A 25-year-old Baluchi compatriot imprisoned since age 18

The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran strongly condemns the criminal death sentence against Goli Koohkan, a 25-year-old mother who has been imprisoned since she was 18 and calls for immediate action to prevent her execution.

Goli Koohkan, one of the deprived Baluchi girls, was forced into marriage at the age of 12 and gave birth to a son at 13. She was sentenced to death by the regime’s judiciary for a family dispute that resulted in her husband’s death. She has spent seven years in Gorgan prison, and it is reported that this criminal sentence is scheduled to be carried out soon.

Goli Koohkan is, above all, a victim of the criminal clerical regime and its medieval laws, which have institutionalized child marriage. Her execution, after being imprisoned since the age of 18, once again exposes the brutality and hideous face of this misogynistic regime.

The Women’s Committee calls on the United Nations and its relevant bodies, especially the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, as well as all human rights and women’s rights defenders, to take immediate action to prevent the execution of condemned prisoners, particularly women.
