Despite severe suppressive measures students marked Iran Students Day

Thousands of students demonstrated in Tehran

NCRI – Yesterday, Tehran and many other cites throughout the nation such as Tabriz, Kerman, Bandar-Abbas, Zahedan, and Shahr-Kurd were the scenes of brave student uprisings commemorating December 7, Iran’s Student Day. The demonstration and uprisings took place despite unprecedented suppression by the mullahs’ regime which had been preparing for some time.

From early morning hours on Wednesday, large numbers of the paramilitary Bassij forces, Revolutionary Guards’ Corps (IRGC) units, State Security Forces (SSF) units, Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) agents, and SSF anti-riot units were dispatched to the vicinity of the Tehran University, in particular to Fakhar-Razi and Farvardin 12th streets. These forces blocked the main entrance to the university on Azar 16th Street and did not allow any gatherings. SSF motorcycle units blocked the intersection of Wesale-Shirazi and Enqelab streets to attack the students. Despite the suppressive measures, thousands of students demonstrated around the university.

At 11 a.m., the students who had gathered on Azar 16th Street chanted slogans such as, “Students are willing to die but not accept humiliation,”  “[We want] freedom and equality boycott the [upcoming] elections; bring this door down, “Incompetent minister should resign. Death to the dictator, Free all political prisoners. Canons, tanks and the Bassij are no longer effective.” They broke the main university entrance gate.

Simultaneously, a large number of students had gathered on campus opposite the School of Technology, chanting anti-government slogans.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all Iranian people, in particular youths and students, to support the uprising students in Tehran and calls on all international human rights organization and associations as well as student unions to condemn the suppressive measures by the mullahs’ regime against the students.
