Nightly protests in Tehran against the execution of Mohsen Shekari

Chanting “I will kill whoever killed my brother,” “Death to Khamenei,” “We pledge to Mohsen, we will take back Iran”

On Thursday night, December 17, the 84th night of the uprising, people in different parts of Tehran, including Sattar Khan and on Azadi Street and its surrounding areas, Jeyhoon, Towhid Square, Punak, Haft-e Tir, Ekbatan, Chitgar, Shahr (City) Theater Station, and Narmak staged protests shouting “Mohsen Shekari” and chanted, “Death to Khamenei,” “Death to the dictator,” “I will kill whoever killed my brother,” “They took our Mohsen and returned his body” and “Freedom, freedom, freedom.” Long lines of cars were moving toward Azadi Square and Sattar Khan while honking their horns. In fear of the people’s protests, the repressive forces were stationed at the intersections and different parts. In Narmak, people chanted, “We pledge to Mohsen, we will take back Iran.” In Shahrak Ekbatan, the youth chanted, “Iran is bleeding from Zahedan to Tehran.”

The State Security Force, Basij, and plainclothes agents attacked the demonstrators around Azadi Square and fired tear gas, and subsequently, hit-and-run clashes with suppressive forces broke out. A large banner on Hemat highway read: “Mohsen Shekari, we will avenge you.”

In Sanandaj, youths lit fires and chanted “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to agents” in Nabovat Square, and the people of Saqqez blocked the roads by lighting fire in the Saleh Abad area.

Young people in Isfahan staged a nightly demonstration in Chaharbagh chanting anti-government slogans. The suppressive forces attacked them using tear gas. In Najaf Abad, a nightly demonstration was held with the slogan “Poverty, corruption, high living costs, we will go for the overthrow” and in Ardakan, youths staged demonstrations chanting “We do not want a child-killer rule.” In Yasuj, a nightly demonstration was held with the slogan “Death to the dictator” and lighting fires, and gunshots were heard from different parts of the city.

The 40th-day ceremony in honor of Kumar Daroftadeh was held with the large presence of the people of Piranshahr. Kumar, 16, was shot directly in a demonstration in Piranshahr on October 30 and died subsequently in the hospital. Brave youths in Neka (Mazandaran province) set fire to the city’s Justice Department and in Yazd they set fire to the building of the so-called Khomeini Relief Committee.

On Thursday, the families of those arrested during the uprising gathered outside the Evin prison to find out about the condition of their loved ones. A number of doctors and medical staff gathered in protest against the death sentence of Dr. Hamid Qareh Hasanlu but they were attacked by the suppressive agents.
