Iran: Night Protests, Demonstrations, and Strikes by Merchants, University, and High School Students on the 34th Day of Nationwide Uprising

On Wednesday, October 19, the 34th day of the nationwide uprising, students’ protests continued in Tehran and various cities.

The students at the Razi University of Kermanshah, western Iran, protested, chanting, “Until the mullahs are not buried, our homeland will not be free.” They also chanted in front of paramilitary Basijs who were praying on the campus, “You pray with bloody hands.” Students at Allamah University in Tehran held a protest rally to support detained students, chanting, “Freedom, Freedom, Freedom.” Students at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences protested, chanting, “From Zahedan to Tehran, I sacrifice my life for Iran.”

In Bukan and Sanandaj, students marched, chanting, “Death to the dictator,” “Shame on our police, “and “We will fight, we will die, and we will take back Iran.” In Mashhad and Babolsar, youths graffiti on walls. Shopkeepers in Divandarreh, Bukan, and Mahabad continued their strike in solidarity with the uprising.

On Wednesday night, on Shariati Street, Zafar, and Tehran Pars districts in Tehran, chants of “Death to the dictator” could be heard. In Sultanabad, the youth took control of the area by lighting fires on the streets. In Ekbatan, the youth held night demonstrations and confronted the suppressive forces.

The youth blocked the streets in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, chanting “Death to the dictator.” Khamenei’s banner was set on fire in Karaj, west of Tehran. In Mahabad, Kamyaran, Sanandaj, Arak, Javanshir, and Dehgolan, people staged night demonstrations, chanting, “Death to Khamenei.” In Saveh, southwest of Tehran, the rebellious youth took control of the Saveh highway by lighting fire. In Sanandaj, the youth set fire to a special unit’s motorcycle.

Meanwhile, on October 19, the state-run Jamaran website reported that Jalal Mahmood Zadeh, a parliament deputy from Mahabad, said: “With the severe disruption of the internet, we have lost seven to eight million internet jobs, and domestic platforms are not at a level to solve people’s problems.”
