Iran: Protests and Rallies of Telecommunications Retirees in Tehran and 17 Cities

In Tehran, protesters chanted in response to Khamenei’s remarks from the previous day: “Our enemy is right here, they lie when they say it’s America,” “Only by taking to the streets can we claim our rights,” and “We won’t stop until we get our rights.”

On Monday, February 3, 2025, telecommunications retirees held protest gatherings in Tehran and 17 other cities, including Ilam, Bijar, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Ahvaz, Shiraz, Sanandaj, Zanjan, Khorramabad, Marivan, Hamedan, Shahr-e Kord, Arak, Urmia, Isfahan, Sari, and Rasht, to protest the plundering of their wages. In some cities, including Tehran, they marched before gathering.

In Tehran, on Sardar Jangal Street, in response to Khamenei’s remarks from the previous day, retirees chanted: “Our enemy is right here, they lie when they say it’s America.” They also chanted: “Only by taking to the streets can we claim our rights,” “This is the best slogan—it’s all about filling their pockets,” and “Unity, unity.”

In Kermanshah, telecommunications retirees chanted: “A retiree’s pension only lasts a week,” “Major shareholders have stolen our rights,” and “With incomplete or unstable jobs, if we stay silent, this will continue.” In Zanjan, retirees chanted: “Livelihood and dignity are our absolute rights,” “Food and living expenses must be updated,” and “We won’t stop until we get our rights.”
