Iran: Protests by Workers, Retirees, and Various Sectors Against Poverty and Injustice Continue Across Cities

On Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2, 2025, extensive protests and gatherings were held by workers, retirees, and various sectors of the public in different cities.

Saturday, November 1:

  • In Tehran, more than a thousand third-party contract workers from the oil industry protested in front of the presidential institution. Third-party contract workers from the oil industry in Markazi province also declared their solidarity with this gathering.
  • Official oil industry employees protested in several southern oil regions of Iran, including Lavan, Kharg, Fajr Jam Gas Refining Company, as well as the first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth refineries of South Pars.
  • In the city of Parsian in Hormozgan province, employees of the Parsian Special Economic Zone stopped working and gathered in front of the management building to protest against reductions in their wages and benefits.

Sunday, November 2:

  • Steel retirees in Isfahan held a rally and march to protest the transfer of the Steel Pension Fund to the State Pension Fund, the reduction of their salaries and livelihoods, and the poor state of their medical care and insurance. They chanted: ‘Our enemy is right here; they lie when they say it’s America,’ and ‘They plundered the country, they made us destitute.’
  • In Mahshahr, contractual and subcontracted workers from the petrochemical security unit gathered in front of the labor office, demanding payment of their overdue salaries and benefits from several months ago.
  • Social Security retirees in Shush protested by gathering in front of the governor’s office.

These protests have continued despite security and repressive measures, indicating widespread dissatisfaction among various sectors of the public with the country’s economic and social conditions.
