NCRI warns against delay in referring Iranian regime’s nuclear file to Security Council

IAEAObstruction by Tehran’s lobby in IAEA Board of Governors

At the time when the clerical regime has officially resumed work at Isfahan uranium conversion facility, referring its nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council is of paramount importance.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran condemns Tehran’s lobby’s obstructionism in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency to this end. The arming of Iran’s ruling theocracy with nuclear weapon runs counter to the highest interests of the Iranian people, peace and tranquility in the region and against the very regimes who are currently defending this regime.

The clerical regime is doing its utmost to acquire nuclear weapons. Any delay in imposing comprehensive sanctions brings the catastrophe closer. Negotiations with Tehran only give them the time they need and would not thwart them.

Before the NCRI blew the whistle on Tehran’s nuclear weapons program, the mullahs had hidden their activities from the international community for 18 years. The regime has taken maximum advantage the 22-month talks with the EU-3 in enriching uranium, producing plutonium, building the bomb trigger and casing as well as warheads to deliver it.

It also built at least 4,000 centrifuges to install at Natanz site. It completed the equipment and facilities at Isfahan’s UCF, which was in preliminary phase before the talks. It also gain enormous capability for laser enrichment through at Lavizan-II and Parchin sites.

In a parallel project, intensive work is being carried out at Arak heavy water facility to obtain enough quantities of plutonium to use for the nuclear bomb. The work in Arak is being carried out in three shifts round the clock and was not part of the negotiations with the EU-3. As such, Tehran will be able to produce enough plutonium in 2007, much sooner than predicted by the IAEA.

At the same time, Maraging steel, used to build bomb casings and centrifuges, have been smuggled into Iran through front companies. A project to produce the steel inside the country is continuing without delay. The Revolutionary Guards are also hard at work to build nuclear triggers.

Meanwhile, the clerical regime has continued its game of concealment and deception and refused to allow IAEA inspectors entry to these nuclear sites. While the NCRI revealed Lavizan-I site in March 2003, IAEA visited that site 15 months later, in June 2004. By then, the mullahs had destroyed that site and transferred the equipment elsewhere. While the Lavizan-II site and laser enrichment at that site and at Parchin were revealed in November 2004, IAEA inspectors have yet to visit those sites.
