NCRI press release, October 28 – Two days after his remarks which drew international outrage and condemnation, the mullahs’ President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, today reaffirmed his position. "What they are saying lacks credibility. If a position is correct and sound, it receives coverage and reaction," Ahmadinejad said.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also stressed, "The Zionist usurper regime is not a legitimate regime. This is the stated policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps spokesman, Masoud Jazayeri, while repeating remarks by Ahmadinejad, on Wednesday, said, "Israel’s definitive defeat is inevitable… When the Imam [Khomeini] was saying Israel must be wiped off the map of the earth, they thought this was just a slogan. But with every passing day, they see that unity is beginning to take shape in the Islamic world and among freedom-lovers. This comes at a time when the new round of Intifada in Palestine has been manifested in a new form of struggle."
Simultaneous with Ahmadinejad’s remarks, the Jomhouri Islami daily wrote, "The only way to save Palestine is to step up the struggle and ignore the treacherous government leaders. In the framework of this resistance, no other plan than wiping Israel from the face of the earth is acceptable."
At the same time, through its embassies in Moscow and Paris, the clerical regime tried to whitewash the political scandal surrounding Ahmadinejad’s comments. It said, "The President never incited violence and clashes" and "the policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is based on the Zionist regime’s illegitimacy and confronting its mindset and not the annihilation of the Jewish community."
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, condemned Ahmadinejad’s repugnant and brazen remarks. She said Ahmadinejad’s position once again demonstrated the mullahs’ resolve to step up suppression against the people of Iran and escalate war with the international community. "In order to effectively and definitively confront the ogre of Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism, the time has come to remove the terror tag on the People’s Mojahedin and end restrictions and pressures imposed on the Iranian Resistance, which is the only ideological and political challenger to the theocracy ruling Iran," Mrs. Rajavi said.
