Iranian Resistance calls for action to save the lives of two abducted PMOI members in Iraq

Clerical regime ordered its agents to transfer the PMOI members to Iran via Al-Amarah

The clerical regime has reportedly instructed its agents in Iraq to transfer to Iran two abducted members of the People’s Mojahedin (PMOI) through "safe borders" in Al-Amarah, southern Iraq.

Messrs. Hossein Pouyan (a political refugee from Italy) and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi were abducted on Thursday, August 4 in Baghdad by agents of the Special Security Division of Iraq’s Interior Ministry. These agents belong to the Ninth Badr forces.

The kidnappers were using two police cars in the operation and initially took the PMOI members to the Interior Ministry. There is no news available on their fate, however.

Both of them are "protected persons" under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

The Iranian Resistance holds Iraq’s Interior Ministry and its special forces responsible for the safety and well-being of the two kidnapped individuals and demands urgent action by the Multinational Force to save their lives.

The Iranian Resistance urges the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Human Rights Commission, the Sub-commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, the Working Groups on Involuntary Disappearances and Arbitrary Detentions, the Special Rapporteur on Torture, the High Commissioner for Refugees and all human rights organizations to condemn the kidnapping, which was a blatant violation of several international conventions. It calls for immediate action to save the lives of two PMOI members.

In an urgent letter to Britain’s foreign and defense secretaries, Mr. Mohammad Mohaddessin, Chairman of NCRI’s Foreign Affairs Committee, noted that the British Army was based in Iraq’s southern regions, especially in Al-Amarah, and called for immediate action by British forces to prevent the hand over of the two PMOI members to Iran from the southern borders.
